Sciatica During Pregnancy: What You Need to Know
Sciatica is a common complaint during pregnancy, typically caused by the growing uterus putting pressure on the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back down through the legs. This pressure can lead to sharp, shooting pain, numbness, or tingling in the lower back, buttocks, and legs.

Why it happens: Hormonal changes, especially the increase in relaxin, loosen ligaments and may destabilize the pelvis, contributing to nerve compression. In some cases, the baby's position can increase the risk.

What you can do:

Prenatal chiropractic adjustments, especially with Webster-certified chiropractors, can help align the pelvis and relieve nerve pressure (Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, 2006).

Prenatal modified yoga and stretching, such as the piriformis stretch or child's pose.

Using warm compresses or taking warm (not hot) baths for muscle relaxation.
