Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) affects up to 26% of pregnant women and is characterized by an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, especially at night, often accompanied by tingling or crawling sensations.
Potential causes:
Hormonal shifts, particularly increased estrogen
Iron deficiency or low dopamine levels in the brain
Genetic predisposition
Relief and prevention:
Whole food iron supplements if iron levels are low and possibly other whole food supplements such as Magnesium/calcium, B vitamins or polyunsaturated fatty acids (speak with your healthcare provider)
Moderate daily exercise and regular sleep schedules
Avoid caffeine, especially in the evening
Chiropractic care may support nervous system function, which could help regulate symptoms
